Four men appeared before a guarantees judge of the Accusatory Penal System (SPA) in Colón. They are allegedly linked to the robbery of a kiosk and a house in the Omar Torrijos Herrera district, on the Costa Abajo of the Colón province, from where they stole over 50 thousand dollars in cash and other belongings. The incident occurred on the night of January 27 in the San José area, when the four men, dressed in attire similar to that used by security forces, entered a kiosk and a nearby residence. Once inside the homes, the criminals intimidated the owner with firearms to seize a large haul. All will face a trial for the crime against economic assets in the aggravated robbery modality. According to the report, they took 50 thousand dollars in cash, cell phones, diverse merchandise, and foreign coins for collections. As a result of the investigations carried out by the authorities, the alleged perpetrators were captured on March 12 in simultaneous operations carried out in the provinces of Colón and West Panamá with the support of the Judicial Investigation Directorate (DIJ) and the National Police. At the time of the apprehension, they were notified that they were wanted by the Omar Torrijos Herrera Municipality for the crime of aggravated robbery. During the multiple requests hearing, the Public Prosecutor's Office presented before the Guarantees Tribunal the procedural risks that justified the measure, including the possible destruction of evidence, the danger to the community due to the violent nature of the event, and the risk to the victims and witnesses.
