Panamanian authorities have apprehended at least 20 people in recent hours on suspicion of involvement in migrant trafficking. The National Police reported that, in coordination with the Public Ministry, the National Border Service (Senafront), the National Migration Service, and the Office of Security Investigations (of the U.S. Embassy), Operation “Alborada” was carried out. The operation was aimed at dismantling a presumed criminal network linked to organized crime and illegal migrant trafficking. It was reported that, in cooperation with the First Specialized Prosecutor's Office against Organized Crime, 23 search warrants were executed in the provinces of Panama, Darién, Coclé, and Chiriquí. The 20 apprehended individuals are Panamanian nationals. During the operations, three vehicles, seven packages of presumed illicit substances, and various documents were seized, which will be analyzed as part of the investigations. Prosecutors continue to investigate the case, and the apprehended individuals will be brought before the corresponding authorities.
