Major Arrests of Terrorist Suspects in Panama

Panama's authorities have detected 32 individuals linked to transnational criminal organizations attempting to enter the country. This includes members of Hezbollah, Taliban, and ISIS among others.


Intelligence agents and special forces of the National Border Service (SENAFRONT) have detected thirty-two suspected collaborators of criminal organizations between July and October of this year. These individuals were attempting to enter Panama through the border with Colombia.

According to the official report, eight of these individuals are suspected members of the organization known as "Hezbollah," with six being of Iraqi nationality and three of Lebanese nationality. Two others belong to the "Taliban" of Afghanistan, one to the "Isis" group, and one to "Jihad." Additionally, eight members of the "FARC" (seven Colombians and one Ecuadorian) were also trying to enter the country.

In the last four months, sixteen alerts have been registered for terrorist links, as well as blue and red alerts from Interpol. Among those arrested are citizens of various nationalities, including Colombians, Ecuadorians, Venezuelans, Afghans, Yemenis, and Ghanaians.

Furthermore, 122 citizens of diverse nationalities with criminal records for offenses such as homicide, arms trafficking, drug trafficking, micro-trafficking, sexual offenses, and thefts have been identified.

The Minister of Security, Frank Abrego, indicated that the National Police, Senafront, and Senan are working to combat crime in all its forms and ensure national security. Constant patrols are maintained on land and sea borders to prevent drug, arms, and human trafficking and the entry of transnational criminal organizations.

Recently, "Franchesca," a leader of the criminal organization "El Tren de Aragua," was captured in Colombia. This person was attempting to enter Panama, but strict Panamanian security controls prevented her entry into the country.
