Change of Authorities in the Panama Fire Department

The President of the Republic of Panama, José Raúl Mulino, handed over command to the new General Director of the Honorable Fire Corps, Víctor Raúl Álvarez, and the Deputy General Director, Gonzalo Chang Gil. During the ceremony in the Paz Room of the Palace of Las Garzas, the president emphasized the need to modernize the institution, make it more transparent, and simplify the procedures it offers to the community.

At the event, President Mulino announced that he has requested the Government Innovation Authority (AIG) to develop a program to publicly oversee the procedures and permits granted by the Fire Corps. This is due to the accumulated complaints about cumbersome procedures required in construction matters and other issues.

The new General Director, Víctor Raúl Álvarez, took on the challenge of establishing a futuristic and objective vision to improve the service provided by firefighters to society. His management will focus on updating and training staff, as well as technifying the institution to streamline processes and respond to emergencies efficiently.

Álvarez highlighted the importance of making a qualitative leap in the commitment to citizenship and in the fight against negative elements that have damaged the image of the institution. President Mulino stressed the need for financial, administrative, and operational change to guarantee the honorability of the Honorable Fire Corps.

The swearing-in ceremony took place in compliance with Executive Decree No. 209 of October 28, 2024, and was attended by government authorities, members of the Fire Corps Board, and representatives from the private sector.
