The Public Ministry requested a 30-year prison sentence for a woman accused of aggravated intentional homicide, while the defense asked to consider the absence of criminal records of the accused. The president of the Oral Trial Court announced that the reading of the sentence will take place on November 29 at 3:00 in the afternoon.
The case dates back to May 2020, when the dismembered remains of a woman were found in an apartment in Panama. Her daughter was accused of killing her with 40 stab wounds and blows to the face. After three days of hearings, a jury declared the accused guilty of the crime.
The hearing, led by the Oral Trial Court of the First Judicial Circuit of Panama, was conducted with the presentation of expert, documentary, and testimonial evidence. The Public Ministry argued that the accused acted with full mental capacity and premeditation, requesting a conviction.
On the other hand, the defense argued the insanity of the accused, who followed the process virtually from a rehabilitation center. After deliberating for 30 minutes, the jury issued its guilty verdict. It is expected that the penalty to be imposed on the accused will be determined soon.
