Debate on the CSS reform continues

The debate on the reform of Law 51 of the Social Security Fund (CSS) will continue this Monday, November 18, in the National Assembly with new participants who will present their viewpoints on the project submitted by the Executive Branch.

Until last week, only 69 of the 641 registered individuals had the opportunity to express their opinions and questions regarding the proposal. Among the most debated topics is the creation of individual accounts that would be part of the reform project.

One of the speakers, Juan Pérez, expressed his concern about the implementation of these individual accounts, pointing out that they could jeopardize the financial stability of the social security system in Panama. According to Pérez, it is necessary to thoroughly analyze the implications and potential risks of this measure before it is implemented.

In contrast, other participants like María Gómez support the idea of individual accounts, arguing that they would provide greater autonomy to workers to manage their retirement savings. Gómez highlighted the importance of adapting the social security system to the current needs and realities of the population.

The debate will continue this week in the National Assembly, where more voices are expected to join the discussion around the reform of Law 51 of the CSS.
