Panamá Oeste is preparing for the upcoming national championship, which begins this Saturday, January 3rd. The team will present a new, fully professional coaching staff, according to a press release from the Panamanian Baseball Federation (Fedebeis).
Dimas Ponce will head the coaching staff and will be accompanied by his brother, Ashley Ponce, a player for the Toronto Blue Jays in the 'Dominican Summer League'. Also joining the team are Houston Astros scout Daniel Rodríguez, pitching coach Hermán Montero, and strength and conditioning coach Alexis Fosaty.
On the pitching side, the team will be led by left-hander and world championship player Joshua Martínez, who went 6-0 in the 2025 season, along with Alberto Gómez and Abel Rodríguez. In the infield, standout players include Juan David Caballero, Michael Worthington, Jean Carlos Rodríguez, and the talented infielder Xavier Waldron.
Panamá Oeste is one of the sports provinces that has worked intensively on the minor league categories of Panamanian baseball in recent years. Their efforts bore fruit in 2023 when they won the national championship in the juvenile category.
