Panamanian player known for base‑stealing is set to sign a $2.3–2.5 million deal with the New York Yankees.

Caballero Nears Yankees Contract

Panamanian infielder José Caballero, who has become a fan favourite since joining the New York Yankees, is close to signing a contract worth between $2.3 million and $2.5 million. In the 2023 season he stole 49 bases, topping the Major Leagues. He is currently on vacation but is actively working on the deal. With the Yankees he appeared in 40 games, hitting 21 times for 6 doubles, 3 home runs, 9 RBI, 14 walks and 15 stolen bases in 18 attempts. The Yankees plan to finalize the agreement before January 18, after which Caballero will officially join the roster.

"Chema," as he is affectionately called, arrived in New York on July 30 on loan from the Tampa Bay Rays. After the team offered him a contract in November last year, only the finalisation remains. The new player, with a serious mindset, is ready to take on the responsibility of wearing the striped uniform that so many stars have defended.
