Ana Irene Delgado Appointed as World Aquatics Advisor

Ana Irene Delgado has been appointed Advisor to the President of World Aquatics, one of the largest and most powerful sports organizations in the world. The appointment was officially made on January 24, 2026, in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, and it was not a random decision. Talent, preparation, and persistence are how one can go far, even from a small country but with people who compete in major leagues. Panama is making a strong impact once again beyond its borders. It has clout, it has a track record, and it has backing.

This appointment reinforces Delgado's commitment to promoting sports, aligned with the vision of President José Raúl Mulino, betting that the country will not just compete, but lead. Delgado holds several key positions: she is the Ambassador of Panama to the Organization of American States, Vice President of the Pan American Confederation of Fencing, Vice President of the Modern Pentathlon Union, and President of the Panamanian Modern Pentathlon Federation. She is also the FIE Ambassador for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

This appointment puts Panama at a table where major decisions are made—decisions that shape the course of world sports. The World Aquatics Board of Directors approved it unanimously, demonstrating the weight and respect that the Panamanian woman commands in the international sports community. It is from this body that decisions that move swimming, water polo, diving, and other disciplines at a global level are made. This time, it's not for a goal or a medal, but for leadership.
