Colón Province Reopens Its New Baseball Stadium

After nearly nine years without its main baseball coliseum, the province of Colón will today have its new Mariano Bula stadium, which was an urgent necessity for the practice of this sport. Today, in an event led by the President of the Republic, José Raúl Mulino, this stadium on the Atlantic coast will be inaugurated. According to the inauguration schedule, the event is set for 10 in the morning. Subsequently, at 8 in the evening, the opening match of the Senior National Baseball Championship between Colón and Chiriquí will be held. The people of Colón had to wait several years for this project to become a reality, as the original order to proceed with the stadium was issued on November 7, 2017, with a projected 20-month construction phase and an original contract cost of B/.15,591,271.76. However, everything was left abandoned by two consecutive governments until the administration of President José Raúl Mulino gave it the definitive boost. The new Mariano Bula stadium will have a capacity for 5,000 fans and parking for 102 vehicles. It will feature commercial premises, bathrooms with locker rooms for athletes, a clubhouse, a batting cage, a box, a gym, a conference room, two dormitories for 32 players, press booths, a laundry room, and a medical clinic, among other facilities. The playing field itself will be synthetic turf, with Major League Baseball specifications, suitable for local league games, international matches, and professional baseball.
