Panamanian Delgado Retains World Title

Panamanian boxer Nataly Delgado successfully defended her interim super bantamweight world title of the World Boxing Association (WBA). She secured a decisive victory over Venezuelan Yoselin Fernández, where technical skill made the difference. This was Delgado's second successful title defense. She first won the title in July by defeating Mexican Maribel Ramírez and then defended her belt in December against Arlenn Sánchez in Veraguas. With the exception of a balanced first round, Delgado took control of the fight. She employed an elaborate, organized, and precise style, in contrast to her rival's disorganized aggression. Delgado controlled the distance, selected her punches better, and built a clear advantage on the scorecards. In the second round, she found power shots that troubled Fernández, who then showed visible signs of fatigue, including facial swelling that persisted for the rest of the fight. "I knew Yoselin would be tough and would force me to bring out my best weapons. Thanks to my team for giving 200%," Delgado stated after the bout.
