The National Police deeply regrets the death of Captain José Izasa Melo, a brave officer who lost his life in the line of duty.
The incident occurred after police units in Caimitillo received an alert about two individuals on a motorcycle firing shots in the Calzada Larga area. According to the institution, these individuals ignored the order to stop, which led them to strike the officer, causing his death.
«The National Police strongly repudiates these acts of violence and disrespect towards members of the public force, who risk their lives daily to protect the citizenry,» the institution stated. «Therefore, it reaffirms its unwavering commitment to not rest until those responsible for this cowardly attack are found».
In turn, the Minister of Security, Frank Ábrego, said that criminals will get no mercy, no matter where they come from. «The State does not yield».
