Police Reinforcement in Bocas del Toro

The province of Bocas del Toro will receive 50 new National Police agents in the coming weeks, along with additional patrols to reinforce surveillance at various points in the area. The reinforcement was confirmed by Minister of Public Security, Frank Abrego, during a tour of the province. He explained that the officers will take to the streets as soon as they graduate, in about 15 days. The new police officers will be sent to areas where the most problems have been reported, especially thefts on plantations, a situation that has caused concern in several Bocas del Toro communities. During the visit, the new police headquarters in Changuinola was also discussed. Authorities are working to enable pedestrian crossings and improve the flow of people, commerce, and tourism in the area. These coordination efforts involve Migration, Senafront, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Health, and the Government of Bocas del Toro. The offices will be located in the old Chiquita Panama building, a site that has been closed and unused for over ten years. Regarding Operation Odysseus, Abrego stated that arrests have been made and surveillance continues in neighborhoods with the highest criminal activity, as part of ongoing operations in the province. Another topic that came up was the border crossing with Costa Rica.
