Former Chepo Officials Charged with PDIS Embezzlement

The former representative of the Chepo Community Board (2019-2024) and a former treasurer have been charged with the crime of aggravated embezzlement against the public administration, related to a decentralization case. During a multiple-request hearing, the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office managed to get the judge to declare the apprehension legal, admit the formulation of the charge, and apply as a precautionary measure the periodic report of signature on the 15th and 30th of each month at the Regional Prosecutor's Office of Chepo. The judge also prohibited both former officials from approaching the Chepo Community Board and, consequently, the personnel who work there. These facts, allegedly committed to the detriment of different Community Boards and Municipalities nationwide during the period 2019-2024, caused a patrimonial damage to the State for the sum of $61,130. This case is related to complaints filed in 2024 for facts classified as a crime against the Public Administration (Embezzlement), related to the use of funds from the Program of Social Interest (PDIS).
