A total of 220 rectangular packages of suspected illicit substance were seized during an anti-drug operation carried out in the Chepo sector by units of the National Border Service (Senafront), in coordination with the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Drug-Related Crimes.
During the police action, authorities apprehended two citizens who are believed to be linked to the transport of the illicit cargo.
According to the official report, the suspected drug was hidden inside four teak wood tucas, which had been artisanally modified to serve as hidden compartments, evidencing an uncommon smuggling method.
The apprehended individuals, along with the seized evidence, were handed over to the competent authority for the initiation of the corresponding investigations.
Authorities stated that this case reveals a new modality used by organized crime structures for drug trafficking, utilizing export materials and a legal appearance to evade controls.
