The National Institute of Aqueducts and Sewers (Idaan) reported that the Federico Guardia Conte water treatment plant in Chilibre is currently operating at 90% of its capacity while repairs continue at one of its pumping stations. These works are being carried out with the support of the Panama Canal Authority (ACP), whose workshops received one of the affected engines for repair on Monday as part of efforts to restore the plant's full operation. In parallel, technical teams from Idaan continue to work at the treated water pumping station, aiming to complete the system's recovery as quickly as possible. The incident occurred last Saturday night when an electrical failure reduced the plant's operation to 50%. According to the entity, initial repairs allowed capacity to be increased to 90% a few hours later. Idaan reiterated that its teams, together with ACP personnel, continue working to reach 100% operation. In light of the situation, the institution called on the population to make moderate use of drinking water to facilitate its equitable distribution while the work is completed.
