MIDA begins audit for agricultural certification in Chiriquí

Panama's MIDA has initiated an audit for companies in Chiriquí seeking Good Agricultural Practices certification to ensure food safety and quality.

The Ministry of Agricultural Development (MIDA) announced the start of an audit process for companies and agricultural operations in the province of Chiriquí that seek to obtain official certification for compliance with Good Agricultural Practices (GPA). This certification certifies that producers have complied with Law 11 of April 15, 2016, which establishes the National Program for Good Agricultural Practices and Traceability. According to MIDA, the activity, which will be developed over several days in Chiriquí, is led by Engineer Emmeris Quintero, National Director of Plant Health, and Gabriel Hernández, head of the Department of Traceability and Good Agricultural Practices of Plant Health. Producers of vegetables and fruits have already passed the pre-audits conducted by certified auditors and are now awaiting the receipt of their GPA Certification during the year 2025, MIDA ensures. "It is important that you know the Law and can carry out the verification and compliance process to successfully achieve your certification," Quintero emphasized. "With this, it is sought to guarantee the safety and quality of the food that reaches the table of Panamanians," the institution ensures.
