Panama Launches First Agricultural Certification Program

A historic event took place in Chiriquí as 16 producers received their Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) certificates. This initiative, led by the Minister of Agricultural Development (MIDA), Roberto Linares, marks the first of its kind in Panama. The certification program promotes safe and responsible farming practices, ensuring food can be traced from the farm to the table. This protects both consumers and those who work the land. "Each certified farm states, 'Our products meet safety and sustainability standards,' said Emmeris Quintero, Director of Plant Health. He emphasized that this innovation safeguards consumers and agricultural workers. "Certification is an achievement, but it must be maintained. It is a seal of quality," added Alex Corrales from the supply chains. The initiative aims to guarantee that food is traceable. "Traceability is key. People want to know where their food comes from," said certified producer Roberto Rodríguez.
