Panama - A total of 50,000 units of alleged smuggled cigarettes, valued at approximately $3,750, were seized by inspectors from the Customs Prevention and Control Directorate at the San Isidro checkpoint in Chiriquí. During a routine inspection conducted last night, customs officers were checking a dark sedan driven by a Panamanian citizen and noticed that it was carrying two boxes and three transparent bags hidden in the trunk. Upon inspection, it was revealed that the contents were cigarettes. The driver did not have the necessary documentation to prove legal ownership of the cigarettes, so they were seized. An investigation was opened against the driver and his companion, both Panamanian nationals, on suspicion of the crime of smuggling goods.
