Transfer of 10 Young Men with Disabilities to New Center in Chitré

Panama's Ministry of Social Development coordinated the relocation of 10 young men with disabilities from a center in Tocumen to a specialized facility in Chitré. This is a temporary measure to meet their needs until a long-term solution is found. The minister personally inspected the conditions and arranged for medical care.

The Ministry of Social Development (Mides) reported that the transfer of these 10 young adults, who grew up within the child and adolescent protection system, required coordination with the National Secretariat for Childhood, Adolescence, and Family (Senniaf), a decentralized and specialized state entity that was responsible for these ten individuals at the Comprehensive Care Center in Tocumen. As the governing body of social public policies, Mides promotes articulated actions to ensure the protection of childhood and adolescence, as well as people in vulnerable situations under state guardianship, ensuring them dignified and adequate conditions from an inter-institutional approach. The Minister of Social Development (Mides) and President of the Board of Directors of the National Secretariat for Childhood, Adolescence, and Family (Senniaf), Beatriz Carles de Arango, coordinated the transfer of 10 adult male young people with disabilities, residing at the Comprehensive Care Center (CAI) in Tocumen, to the Hogar María Auxiliadora, located in the city of Chitré, Herrera province. On the morning of this Tuesday, the 17th, the minister traveled to the Hogar María Auxiliadora to personally verify the needs of the transferred population, from where she managed to articulate with the Ministry of Health, which immediately sent a medical team to evaluate each of the young people. The Hogar María Auxiliadora is currently unoccupied, as it houses 23 adolescents during the school season. Likewise, alternatives are being coordinated that provide continuity of the service that has been provided to the adolescent student population under the same conditions, once the school period begins. According to the entity, this measure is temporary while a specialized and multidisciplinary solution is managed, in accordance with the needs of this population.
