Concern over Road Condition in Colón

The Maritime Chamber of Panama (CMP) expressed its concern over the deterioration of Randolph Avenue in the city of Colón, a road considered key for mobility linked to the logistical and port operations of the province. According to the guild, the current state of this artery is generating direct impacts on the continuity and efficiency of cargo movement, transit of equipment, and connectivity between strategic installations, negatively affecting the performance of the country's maritime-logistical system. The CMP warned that this situation also translates into higher operational costs, delays in travel times, and unfavorable conditions for the development of a significant part of the economic activity of both Colón and Panama. Given this panorama, the Chamber considers it essential that the competent authorities address the problem with priority, recalling that the road infrastructure that supports the national logistics platform directly influences competitiveness, operational reliability, and Panama's image as a regional logistics center. The guild highlighted that Randolph Avenue handles approximately 46% of the cargo of the national port system, equivalent to about 4.6 million TEUs out of the more than 10 million that the country handles annually, which reflects its strategic relevance within the logistical gear. The CMP maintained that maintaining the situation without corrective measures is not sustainable and proposed opening, in the shortest possible time, a space for joint work between authorities and sector actors to evaluate concrete solutions, define a viable roadmap, and execute improvements in accordance with the importance of this route for port activity in Colón. It reiterated its willingness to participate technically in a constructive dialogue that allows addressing the problem with responsibility and a sense of urgency, for the benefit of the sector's operability, national competitiveness, and the orderly development of the Panamanian logistics platform.
