Similarly, they called for the creation of an inclusive dialogue table that integrates the government, communities, and companies, insisting that the local population must be heard directly and not through third parties. In turn, Julio Hernández, governor of Colón, acknowledged that the mining issue has historically been handled without the necessary community participation, pointing to the disconnect between political decisions and the reality on the ground. In this sense, he proposed the need to move towards a clear, fair, and collectively negotiated mining contract. Hernández expressed his support for opening a broad dialogue process that includes both supporters and opponents of mining activity, highlighting that the goal should be to find a point of balance that allows for a progressive and sustainable solution. The governor also emphasized that Colón must play a leading role in any decision regarding the mine, ensuring that the province is the first to receive benefits and opportunities. He also called for avoiding the politicization of the issue and addressing it with seriousness and commitment.
