Delfia Cortez practiced journalism for 24 years, always closely linked to social causes and the community that saw her grow. Those who knew her remember that Cortez was characterized by her commitment to people and her passion for telling real stories, often giving a voice to those who are rarely heard. The journalist died at the age of 60 on January 10, 2024, several days after suffering a stroke on January 5 while participating in a religious event in the province of Colón. The National College of Journalists (Conape) announced the creation of the National Delfia Cortez Award, a recognition that will bear her name and seeks to highlight the work of women journalists committed to defending women's rights and dignity. The award was created to honor the career of this communicator, born in the province of Los Santos, but raised from childhood in Colón, where she developed much of her journalistic career. Her departure caused sorrow among colleagues, friends, and community members. Now, with this award that bears her name, her legacy will be linked to journalism that fights for the dignity and rights of women in Panama.
