A balcony of the residential building No. 7087, located on Calle 7, Avenida Central in the city of Colón, partially collapsed, revealing the advanced state of deterioration of this property. Its residents were included in a relocation plan to the Altos de Los Lagos II Phase project, in the corregimiento of Cristóbal Este. Javier Blas, an official from the Ministry of Housing and Territorial Planning (MIVIOT), reported that the affected structure shows significant wear and tear. 'It is a building that is already quite deteriorated, as can be observed,' he noted during a preliminary inspection. Following the collapse, immediate actions were activated, including a technical assessment in coordination with the infrastructure team. Officials indicated that the corresponding authorities in Panama would be notified to manage contingency measures. There are 31 families residing in the building, who are awaiting concrete actions and relocation, as they were already included in the relocation plans.
