The National System for Civil Protection (Sinaproc) has issued an advisory due to waves in the Caribbean Sea. In Colón (in Costa Abajo, Centro, and Costa Arriba), waves between 1.3 and 2.0 meters are expected, while in the Guna Yala region they could reach up to 2.5 meters. In the western Caribbean, which includes Bocas del Toro, the Ngäbe Buglé region, and the north of Veraguas, the waves will be between 1.2 and 1.7 meters. Authorities are urging people to remain calm. The National System for Civil Protection (Sinaproc) activated the alerts on March 1st and will maintain surveillance until the night of March 3rd due to waves in the Panamanian Caribbean. The advisory was issued following a report from the Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology of Panama (Imhpa), which warns of an increase in trade winds in the region. This is not a situation to be taken lightly. In case of an emergency, the lines 911 and 520-4426 are active. It is recommended not to enter the sea when there are strong currents, to wear life jackets, and to avoid inaccessible beaches if the sea is rough.
