Colón Mayor Suspended Without Pay for 30 Days

The Colón Municipal Council has requested the suspension of the district's mayor for 30 days without pay, through a resolution issued by the body. This resolution was issued due to the repeated failure to comply with provisions established in municipal agreements and laws related to the functioning of municipalities. The 11 representatives are demanding that the mayor's office pay the community boards for their proper operation. Regarding this resolution, the Colón mayor's office has not issued any comment, except for a statement indicating that some representatives did not want to submit to an audit of the funds allocated to the community boards. This resolution will be delivered to the governorship to suspend the mayor for a month without salary. Pedro Santizo, representative of the Barrio Sur district, stated that this suspension is due to the non-payment to the community boards and added that they have requested to meet with the mayor, but it has not been possible. Ricardo Cerrud, representative of the Cristóbal district, for his part, indicated that in a year and seven months they have evidenced a very serious offense by the mayor, as he ensures that he does not manage the resources properly, since he pays some community boards and not others. The district of Colón is made up of 15 districts that are part of the Colón district.
