Panamanian Government Announces Tender for UTP Dormitory Construction

The government announced on Thursday the tender for the construction of dormitories at the Technological University of Panama (UTP). According to the President of the Republic, José Raúl Mulino, this project will benefit 266 low-income students from different regions of the country. “This university has been fundamental over the years and a great support on technical matters of importance for this country,” the president said. Mulino stated that the Minister of Public Works, José Ramón Icaza, confirmed to him that the tender process is now available for interested companies. The dormitories will feature study rooms, common rooms, kitchens for food preparation, a gym, and play areas, with men and women housed separately. “We expect to launch the tender for the university dormitories in the six regional campuses with a capacity for 93 students, starting with the campus in David, Chiriquí, next week,” announced the president. He reiterated that the funds for these projects come from the original budget allocated for the University City, an initiative that was ultimately not implemented.
