A 25-year-old man was provisionally detained after being accused of attempting to kill his mother in Chiriquí. The young man stabbed his own 61-year-old mother and tried to set her house on fire with her inside, during a domestic violence episode. The woman suffered burns on 20% of her body and is admitted to the intensive care unit of the Rafael Hernández Regional Hospital. The suspect was located during an operation on the David River, showing signs of dehydration and visible blows. He was urgently transferred to the hospital and, after stabilizing him, placed at the disposal of the Judicial Branch. The case has alarmed the province and reopened the debate on violence against women and sanctions for aggressors. The guarantees judge will define the precautionary measures while the investigations continue.
