President José Raúl Mulino announced this Thursday the publication of the tender for the construction of university dormitories for the Technological University of Panama (UTP). "This university has been fundamental over the years and a great support on technical issues of importance to this country," Mulino commented. The funds for these projects come from the budget originally allocated for the University City, an initiative that was ultimately not realized. The head of state had stated that the University City would not be built, not for lack of enthusiasm or will from the Executive, but for the lack of cooperation from the rector of the University of Panama, Eduardo Flores. According to the president, the facilities will have a capacity to house 266 students and will include dormitories, study room, living room, kitchen, gym, and game room. This project aims to benefit low-income students from different regions of the country. Mulino also announced that in the coming weeks, the Government will publish the tenders for the university dormitories of the UTP's six regional campuses, each with a capacity for 93 students, starting with the David campus, in the province of Chiriquí. The president also explained that the dormitories will be divided between men and women and will be located within the current UTP campus.
