Units of the National System of Civil Protection (Sinaproc) in the province of Veraguas evacuated several bathers preventively after the sighting of crocodiles at Morrillo Beach, located in the district of Mariato. According to the entity, the reptiles were spotted while numerous people were enjoying bathing in the area, which posed a risk to the visitors' safety. In response, Sinaproc personnel proceeded to evacuate the danger zone and placed the corresponding flag as a warning. Jatsabeth Jiménez, director of the entity in Veraguas, confirmed the presence of the crocodiles and explained that the animals were roaming the beach at the time of the incident. She stated that the main objective of the measure taken was to prevent possible attacks and safeguard the integrity of the bathers. The authorities reiterated the call to the population and tourists to respect safety signs and follow the recommendations of emergency agencies, especially in coastal areas where this type of situation with wildlife may arise. Sinaproc indicated that it will maintain surveillance in the sector and urged to report any new sightings immediately to take the corresponding actions.
