Fourth Bridge over the Canal Project in Panama Reaches 30% Completion

The Minister of Public Works, José Luis Andrade, announced that the Fourth Bridge over the Canal project has an overall progress of 30%, with work ongoing 24/7. The head of the MOP indicated that the Government decided to incorporate a world-class design for the East Interchange, which will directly connect the Fourth Bridge with the North Corridor, the Avenue of Friendship, and Martín Sosa Road. In front of the ministers of state and President José Raúl Mulino, he affirmed that it will be the largest interchange in Panama—and probably in Central America—to guarantee that traffic flows in and out of the city smoothly. President José Raúl Mulino highlighted the impact of the Fourth Bridge over the Canal, stating it will be a project that will transform transit, the city, and the country. He thanked the consortium and, in particular, the Panamanian workforce, noting that this infrastructure will distinguish Panama when it is inaugurated. Regarding the Fourth Bridge over the Canal, Andrade stated that this project was born out of a social urgency and a historical debt to millions of Panamanians who have been waiting for years for a real solution to traffic congestion. He recalled that on August 27, 2024, the government of President José Raúl Mulino assumed the commitment to rescue, reactivate, and complete this mega-project.

"We are paving the way for future generations," he affirmed.

Among the technical milestones: • Over 360 piles installed, with 8,900 tons of steel and 27,500 m³ of concrete. • 5.4 kilometers of drilling completed in one year of work. • 1,600 m³ of concrete already placed in the right foundation of the main tower, by the Canal. • This weekend, the foundation of the left leg of the main tower will be completed. • Rock excavation at Cerro Sosa with 34% progress. • East approach viaducts with 67% progress in foundations.

The main towers—detailed Andrade—will reach 186 meters in height, equivalent to 65 floors, marking the profile of a structure designed to last for decades.

What's coming next includes new viaduct columns on the west side (Panamá Pacífico area), utility relocation, and the elevated horseshoe of the east interchange.

On that day, at Cerro Sosa, the first foundation excavations began.

All of this also translates into jobs: the workforce will increase from 2,000 to 3,700 workers, plus more equipment, materials, and economic activity.
