Panama's Cabinet Council Approves Metro Maintenance Contract

The Council of Cabinet approved yesterday Resolution No. 146-25, authorizing an exceptional procedure contract between Metro de Panamá, S.A. (MPSA) and the company Sociedad Nacional de Procesamiento de Datos, S.A. (SONDA, S.A.). The contract is for the service of fare collection, financial administration, and maintenance of validation and fare collection equipment on lines 1 and 2 of the Panama Metro. The contract was authorized at a cost of 11 million, 85 thousand, 673 balboas and 14 cents, with a term of 38 months. Additionally, it was announced that in parallel, the bidding documents for the selection of a contractor for a new financial administration and fare collection system contract, valid for ten years, are being developed. This decision follows a rigorous analysis process that determined it was most advisable to extend the exceptional procedure's validity by six months and to partially renew equipment (validators, servers, and switches). The goal is to gain time while the public payment and financing plan is finalized and to replace equipment that no longer has technical support or spare parts.
