Vehicle Price Inspection in Panama

Panamanian authorities conducted an inspection in car dealerships in the city to monitor compliance with the law. During the operation, inspectors detected over 109 violations, mainly related to the absence of visible prices on cars. As a result, more than 13 violation reports were issued, initiating the corresponding administrative procedures. The supplier has a strict obligation to charge only the amount advertised or printed, unless it is proven that the price was altered by the consumer itself. The regulations require this information to be clear, precise, and located in a visible place for the buyer. Likewise, the legislation prohibits any practice that induces the consumer to confusion, error, or deception. The lack of this data violates the consumer's right to receive clear information and represents a lack of institutional transparency on the part of the economic agent, leaving the user unaware of the total amount to be paid. Finally, the institution calls on citizens to report to the competent authorities those agents who fail to comply with the obligation to keep prices visible. These proceedings could result in economic sanctions for the agents involved in the detected irregularities. Legal framework and consumer protection The institution bases these actions on Article 56 of Law 45 of 2007, which establishes the mandatory requirement that all goods and services offered in commercial establishments must display their cash price. In turn, Article 36 of the aforementioned law reinforces that suppliers must inform in a clear, truthful, and timely manner about the value of the product or service. Transparency in the automotive market The entity reiterated that the price is a mandatory and indispensable piece of data in any commercial transaction. The active participation of the population is considered key to strengthening market transparency and guaranteeing the full respect for their rights.
