Kaspersky Study: Cloud Security Among Latin American Users

A Kaspersky study shows that 67% of Latin Americans use cloud storage, but nearly 40% do not protect their data, creating significant risks amid rising cybercrime.

Kaspersky Study: Cloud Security Among Latin American Users

A study reveals that nearly 40% of users in Latin America do not protect their digital space or consider it unnecessary, while 19% admit they do not know how to apply additional security measures.

Shared Responsibility in Security Fabiano Tricarico, Director of Consumer Products for the Americas at Kaspersky, explains that the mass adoption of these platforms has not been accompanied by a comparable level of awareness. Tricarico emphasizes that many users mistakenly assume that security depends solely on the provider, when in reality it is a shared process that requires basic measures to prevent unauthorized access or the permanent loss of files.

Recommendations to Protect Your Digital Life To strengthen security in cloud storage, Kaspersky specialists suggest the following actions: • Permission Review: Ensure that only authorized individuals have access to view or edit sensitive documents. • Information Encryption: Apply extra layers of protection to tax, medical, or financial files. • Phishing Prevention: Be wary of messages requesting access credentials, even if they appear to come from the official provider. • Robust Authentication: Use unique passwords and enable two-factor authentication (2FA) on all platforms. • Security Software: Install reliable solutions on all devices to block malware threats and unauthorized access.

As activities migrate to the digital environment, cybercrimes intensify. A single security breach can lead to massive data exposure. The most common risks identified include insecure configurations, credential theft via phishing attacks, and human errors, such as using weak passwords or downloading infected files. While this trend facilitates information backup, it also increases the risks of exposure in a digital environment that is increasingly preyed upon by cybercrime.

The study indicates that 67% of users in the region use online services to store photos, contacts, and conversations from their mobile devices.
