The Transit and Land Transport Authority (ATTT) in Panama has begun the distribution of license plates for the new 2026–2030 period. The first batch of 19,940 units was delivered to the Panama City Municipality. This delivery marks the start of the national supply schedule. Distribution to other municipalities will be progressive over the coming weeks to normalize the service. After several months of delays due to legal processes and the need for the General Comptroller's Office to endorse the contract, the ATTT made this delivery. The deficit had caused many vehicles to circulate only with temporary permits. For instance, in Panama City alone, around 65,000 transit permits were issued monthly between January and February. The new plates, as required by law, feature a new design and are valid for five years. ATTT Director General Nicolás Brea stated, “We are closely monitoring this process to ensure taxpayers and car agencies get their plates.”
