Panama's hotel association predicts at least 85% occupancy nationwide during Easter, expecting a historic influx of tourists. Over 300,000 people are expected to visit Panama's Old City alone, generating around $6 million. The total economic impact of the holiday could reach $200 million.

Panama Hotels Predict Record Occupancy for Easter

The Panamanian Hotel Association (Apatel) calculates a hotel occupancy of at least 85% nationwide during the Easter holiday, anticipating a 'historic influx of visitors' for this season focused on the heritage of the historic Casco Viejo of Panama City and the country's interior. In a comment sent at EFE's request, Apatel explained this Tuesday that regarding the national hotel occupancy of at least 85%, 'peaks that could exceed 90% in high-demand destinations, particularly in beach areas and zones with strong cultural and religious activity' are expected. The 2026 Easter season 'is shaping up to be a high-impact cultural and economic event; gastronomic options, museum tours, and traditional processions make up the offer for those who decide to stay in the capital during the Holy Days'. In this sense, the Panama Tourism Authority (ATP) reported that it projects that more than 300,000 national and foreign visitors will tour the Casco Viejo of Panama City, a World Heritage Site by UNESCO where several historic churches are located, with an economic injection of around 6 million dollars. Economists and representatives of Panama's tourism guild calculate that domestic travel and the arrival of international tourists for the Easter holiday could generate an economic impact of between 100 and 200 million dollars in Panama.
