The construction of the fourth bridge over the Panama Canal, one of the most anticipated infrastructure projects for residents of the western sector, is advancing as scheduled and without setbacks, confirmed the Vice Minister of the Ministry of Public Works (MOP), Iván De Ycaza. "It's useless to have the bridge ready if the accesses are not finished," he emphasized. The fourth bridge over the canal will be a steel and concrete cable-stayed structure with 'H'-shaped towers reaching 186 meters in height. According to De Ycaza, the delivery date remains scheduled for October 2028, and the project has already reached about 35% completion, with notable progress on the eastern bank. He also classified the construction and installation of the segments that make up the bridge deck as a critical stage. Likewise, De Ycaza highlighted the importance of the access roads and viaducts on both the eastern and western sides. The main bridge will be 965 meters long, plus viaducts that will add several more kilometers of connection. The objective of this infrastructure is to connect the city of Panama with the province of West Panama, reducing the traffic congestion that currently affects nearly two million people. "We hope to see similar progress soon on the western bank with the raising of the pillars," he specified. The vice minister explained that while all stages of construction have their degree of complexity, it is essential to work on the bridge's foundations to get it off the ground. The project's cost ranges from $1.3 to $2.137 billion, and it is expected to be completed between 2028 and 2029, significantly alleviating traffic in the region.
