Temporary Cargo Restriction on Centenario Highway in Panama

The Land Transit and Land Transport Authority (ATTT) reported on Tuesday, April 7, that the circulation of cargo transport on the Centenario highway has been temporarily restricted. The entity highlighted that the measure is taken after the temporary closure of the Bridge of the Americas, following part of its structure being damaged by the fire that occurred on Monday afternoon in the La Boca sector, under the bridge. The temporary restriction begins this Tuesday and will be in effect during two time slots: from 4:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The ATTT specifies that specific control points have been established to enforce the measure: those traveling from the interior towards the capital will only be able to reach the La Pesa area in La Chorrera; while those heading from the city of Panama towards the interior can travel as far as the Centennial sector, opposite Altaplaza. "This measure seeks to facilitate mobility on the main arteries and guarantee the safety of all road users during the contingency period," the ATTT highlighted in a statement. The Centenario highway is the route available for thousands of people to travel between West Panama and the capital city and vice versa. The temporary closure of the Bridge of the Americas, since Monday night, has caused massive traffic jams on the main roads of the capital, Arraiján, and La Chorrera. Additionally, thousands of public transport users have been left stranded as buses are delayed on their routes.
