The Mayor's Office seeks to create a safer, walkable, and more orderly space to enjoy every activity without chaos or unpleasantness. This is not being improvised.
The Mayor's Office of Panama has launched the "Pedestrian Zone" project with clear rules to protect the Casco Antiguo.
With this decree, which is a serious measure but designed for people to enjoy the Old Town peacefully without cars in the way or disorder, the "Pedestrian Zone" project is born. It will convert several historic streets into exclusive pedestrian-use zones on scheduled days.
The streets included in this pedestrian zone are: Calle Central (between Calle 2 Este and Calle 9), Pedro J. Sosa, José de Obaldía, Calle 7 San José, Calle 6 Nicanor Villalaz, Calle 5 San Pablo, Calle 4, Calle 3, Calle 8, Calle 2 Oeste, and José D. de la Obaldía. A complete route to walk without rushing, take photos, and enjoy the upcoming Christmas atmosphere.
But be aware, the Mayor's Office has also set clear rules so the "Pedestrian Zone" does not get out of control. During activities, the following is prohibited:
- Consuming or selling alcohol without authorization.
- Street vending without permission.
- Bringing in coolers, glass containers, or alcohol.
- Setting up awnings, tables, or structures without permission.
- Handling pyrotechnics.
- Wearing masks or covering one's face after 6:00 p.m.
- Using sound equipment that exceeds permitted limits.
Security will be reinforced by the Municipal Police, National Police, SPI, ATTT, and Firefighters, who will be in charge of closures, order, and protecting the public.
