Howard Academy Celebrates Independence from Spain with Grand Parade

This parade is not just an event: it is proof that we remain united, that we continue to believe in Panama, and that our youth continues to carry the torch that was lit over two centuries ago. I am deeply grateful to every teacher, every family, every institution, and above all, every student who today looks up with patriotic pride. Because this date is not just history... it is identity, it is struggle, it is the force that gave meaning to the country we now call home. Every November 28th invites us to pause and remember that the freedom we enjoy was not a gift, but a conquest built with courage. It all began with that cry full of hope on November 10, 1821, in the Villa de Los Santos, when a group of Panamanians decided that it was enough, that we deserved a future of our own. That echo of courage traveled through roads, towns, and hearts until it reached Panama City, where on November 28th, our independence was firmly declared. It was an act of love for this land... and also an act of faith in what we could become. Today, here in Panama Pacifico, seeing 26 public and private schools marching together fills me with pride. You are the reason we continue to work, fight, and dream for a better country. Dear students: Never allow this history to be lost. Never forget that freedom is honored with respect, with work, with integrity, and with love for this homeland. And may every step you take today be a reminder that you are the generation that continues to write the history of Panama. Happy Independence Day! Long live Panama and long live our freedom!
