Panama - One man died and another was injured after receiving a strong electric shock, the result of a regrettable workplace accident that occurred last night in the Plaza Amador area, El Chorrillo district. The Honorable Fire Department detailed that the workers were carrying out tasks inside a manhole when the tragedy struck. One was evacuated alive to Santo Tomás Hospital in a fire department ambulance, but the other man had already died. Personnel from Criminalistics and the Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences carried out the procedure for the extraction and lifting of the body to transfer it to the judicial morgue, where the corresponding autopsy will be performed. The fire department requests that the public maintain strict safety protocols when working in confined spaces and areas with electrical risk: verify that all energy sources are deactivated before entering underground chambers, ducts, or manholes; maintain constant communication between personnel on the surface and those working underground; use adequate and certified personal protective equipment; have technical supervision and an immediate rescue plan; and report any risk situation to 911 or to the nearest fire station.
