Elderly Man Killed Due to GPS Error in Panama

A 74-year-old man in Panama was killed in a shooting sparked by a navigation error. Attackers mistook his car for a threat.

A tragic incident occurred in Panama where 74-year-old Rafael Parada González was fatally shot. The event took place on Calle B in the Santa Ana district. The elderly man was traveling with a family member to the city's historic center but a navigation app accidentally diverted them into a dangerous area. A group of men standing between towers #1 and #2 of Patio Pinel complex mistook the car for a threat and opened fire, unaware the occupants were local visitors. Parada González was shot in the back and later died at Santo Tomás Hospital while being transported. A stray bullet also grazed an 11-year-old child walking with his mother on Calle B, who received medical attention at a children's hospital. The National Police of Panama has apprehended one suspect and plans to conduct raids to capture the remaining individuals involved. Police Director Jaime Fernández stated that the perpetrators had criminal records and the situation may be linked to organized crime.
