Inauguration of 'Presidente Café' as a Model for Social Reintegration in the Government Ministry

The Government Ministry of Panama officially inaugurated the 'Presidente Café', an innovative space that will be entirely staffed by individuals deprived of their liberty. The establishment will be open to both institution employees and visitors, consolidating a public policy aimed at the comprehensive transformation of Panama's penitentiary system through dignified work and professional training. The minister thanked those who believe in second chances, highlighting that the First Lady was one of the main promoters of creating a café or restaurant as a bridge from correctional centers to society. The First Lady, Maricel Cohen de Mulino, expressed interest in replicating successful experiences from other countries in Panama. Participants in this project were previously trained by specialized personnel from the Hotel El Panamá by Faranda Grand, aiming to provide them with concrete tools for their future social reintegration. The project, part of the social reintegration and reinsertion programs promoted by the Ministry, was attended by the First Lady, Maricel Cohen de Mulino, as an honored guest. Luis Sánchez, a deprived-of-liberty individual and project collaborator, expressed his gratitude to those who focused on the participants' future rather than their past. The 'Presidente Café' will not only offer quality products in a welcoming environment but will also operate within the historic building of the Government Ministry. It was emphasized that the most important aspect of the 'Presidente Café' is its connection with the community, allowing society to accept the participants as workers and human beings with equal rights. A strategic alliance drives the new 'Presidente Café' for labor reintegration. The Minister of Culture, María Eugenia Herrera; the hotel's general manager, Jaime Campuzano; and the Minister of Government, Dinoska Montalvo, who hosted the event, also participated.
