Popular organizations in Panama praised today the solidarity and commitment of Cuba, calling to intensify the fight against the blockade imposed by the United States. The coordinator of the National Front in Defense of Economic and Social Rights, Jorge Guzmán, rejected Donald Trump's measure to restore Cuba's designation as a state sponsor of terrorism, highlighting the example of dignity and resistance of the island.

In this regard, Guzmán recalled the words of the revolutionary Ernesto Che Guevara about the lack of trust in imperialism and urged support for a people advocating for justice and social equity. He considered that Trump represents the worst of a arrogant and fascist imperialism, but that, as in the past, he will fail in his attempts to subjugate Cuba.

Cuban president, Miguel Díaz-Canel, described Trump's decision as an act of arrogance and disdain, with clear intentions of domination. He denounced the measure as a mockery and an abuse, questioning the credibility of the unilateral coercion mechanisms of the United States.

It is worth remembering that the day before, Joe Biden had excluded Cuba from the list of state sponsors of terrorism. Miguel Díaz-Canel has indicated that Trump's action does not surprise him, as it is part of a series of decisions aimed at undoing the previous policies of his predecessor.

Joe Biden had made the decision on January 14 to remove the designation of Cuba as a state sponsor of terrorism, as well as to issue a waiver for the Helms-Burton Act. These measures were part of a set of executive orders aimed at reversing the hostile policies towards Cuba previously implemented.

In January 2021, the United States designated Cuba as a "State sponsor of terrorism" in one of the last actions of the Trump administration before concluding its term.
