Minister Andrade responds to deputy's complaints about Panama Norte projects

Panama's Public Works Minister José Luis Andrade defended the government's budget allocation for the Panama Norte region, accusing a deputy of complaining without being informed about the projects. President José Raúl Mulino emphasized that the national budget is not subject to political requests.

Despite this, Deputy Jorge González requested the minister to explain the budgeted projects for the Panama Norte area, whose avenues are in total abandonment, to which Andrade responded by saying that he is one of the deputies who complains the most because he is not aware of the works planned for the area.

President José Raúl Mulino addressed the issue during his weekly conversation, mentioning that the budget cannot be allocated based on the requests of state bodies. "I have opened the door for you to present the project as it should be to the MOP and the corresponding tender is made and it is built," he said.

"Are you aware that a project for 10 million dollars for the Panama Norte area has already been tendered and that I have scheduled 10 million more for next year? We are doing our best, if you do not want to see it, perfect," he pointed out.

However, the head of the MOP assured that he has been inspecting the works to avoid this type of situation. He mentioned that the budget reduction in some projects has been reassigned to others in common agreement with the Ministry of Economy and Finance, but this does not mean that they will not be executed; on the contrary, the works will continue to advance.

"We are moving at the maximum speed at which the Government moves, and I am a louse, I go around calling, but we have to be patient, I know that they want everything right now, but it doesn't work that way, that's reality," he affirmed.

"The nation's budget is not made up by deputies or by electoral circuits."

Deputies took advantage of the appearance of Minister José Luis Andrade to learn about the progress of various projects developed in the country, pointing out that in many there are considerable delays.

Mulino asked the deputies not to use this "showcase" for confrontations or insults.

The Ministry of Public Works (MOP) attended the Budget Commission of the National Assembly to request several transfers of appropriations amounting to more than $71.8 million for the reconstruction of sidewalks, roads, avenues, and the rental of transportation equipment nationwide.
