Former Menudo member, writer, and financial advisor Xavier Serbiá visited the Government Palace. He was received by Minister of Government Dinoska Montalvo and her team. It was an unconventional visit, more of a street-level conversation than a protocol-driven event. No long speeches, just a candid talk about inmates, entrepreneurship, and life itself.
Serbiá was given a detailed briefing on the progress of the 'Plan Libertad' and the resocialization programs moving within the Penitentiary System. He also walked through the palace's halls and museum, where he was amazed by artifacts telling the country's story: pre-Columbian huacas, flags, paintings, and memorabilia.
When he was told about the 'Los Remenditos' project, promoted by Minister Montalvo, Serbiá voiced what many think but few say: 'I loved it, because she is an entrepreneur. These are people who know how to start a business; what I need is for them to learn how to sell their product.'
He stated that this visit confirms they are on the right track and that many of the expert's ideas are already in motion; they just need to be shaped and followed up. 'I have many people prepared in the penitentiaries. I need my guys to have another vision and to believe in it.'
'The vision you breathe is that you have to embark, you have to do, you have to create, you have to execute, and you must not be afraid,' he affirmed without beating around the bush. For him, the key is to bet on real options, those that can be tested and yield results.
'We all have flaws, but we deserve a chance,' he said. 'Fascinating,' he remarked, as if discovering something unexpected.
To conclude, he stated: 'We have to give people the tools to start their own businesses and achieve their own freedom.'
