In Panama, four individuals were caught attempting to smuggle prohibited items into the La Joya Penitentiary Center in East Panama. The suspects and the equipment were located by units of the National Border Service (Senafront) and the National Police, in the Quintas de Tanara area in Chepo, a residential complex located very close to the penitentiary. Mid-month, the National Police and the Penitentiary System conducted a search of the prison during which they seized a large quantity of smartphones, drugs, and other items, so it is presumed that the three drones, two routers, and other merchandise were intended for the inmates to restock and reinstate the illegal communication network they had. After the seizure, the four suspects and all the confiscated prohibited items were placed at the disposal of the corresponding authorities for the necessary procedures.
