Cubans in Panama Condemn Protests at Embassy

The Marti Association of Cubans in Panama denounced provocations at the embassy, calling them a violation of international law. The group stated these actions, funded from the US, do not represent the Cuban diaspora.

Panama City, Dec 12 (Prensa Latina) – The Marti Association of Cubans Residing in Panama (Amcrp) condemned today the provocation orchestrated by groups in front of the embassy of the Caribbean nation in this capital.

In a statement, the organization points out that what happened yesterday during an event for peace on International Human Rights Day, held inside the diplomatic premises, is the work of small groups of people paid with the sole purpose of subverting the order and disturbing public tranquility.

In this regard, they indicate that these demonstrations represent a serious violation of the norms of international law that govern relations between States and the protection of diplomatic missions.

«It is essential to make it absolutely clear that none of these people represent or have any link with the historic, respectable and peaceful community of Cubans residing in Panama, whose conduct and contribution to Panamanian society have always been exemplary,» the document states.

It also states that «these actions, promoted from the United States, seek nothing more than to sow hatred, division and disinformation among Cubans, in the service of the same interests that for more than six decades have maintained a brutal and criminal economic, commercial and financial blockade against our people, with the declared objective of suffocating it and generating suffering».

The Amcrp reiterated its confidence in the Panamanian authorities to guarantee the security of these diplomatic facilities, in accordance with their international obligations, and to preserve the climate of peace and coexistence on its territory.

In addition, it urged the national and international community to reject these manipulations and to continue supporting the struggle of the Cuban people for its sovereignty, its right to peace and to decide its destiny free of external interference and destabilization campaigns.

Yesterday, an event for world peace and the right to life, organized by the Cuban embassy in Panama, became an emotional platform in defense of the Revolution that triumphed in 1959.

During the event, the Cuban ambassador to the isthmus, Víctor Cairo, denounced that the diplomatic headquarters was threatened by counter-revolutionary groups, who gathered in the central Belisario Porras Park, in this capital, funded by mercenaries and American politicians only interested in destabilizing the order in their country and creating obstacles to the development of their people through the blockade.

The adversaries of the Revolution, he indicated, who are not interested at all in what is happening in Cuba, are only moved by money, but, as has been demonstrated today, they are defeated by the moral force of those who will never retreat or surrender on the path to being free and sovereign.
