Panama is the host of the First ALAP PRILATIN 2026 Congress on data privacy. The Latin American Privacy Association (ALAP) is driving an initiative in Panama to update on Law 81 of 2019 and the responsible management of personal information. The event brought together over 200 participants, including national and international specialists, authorities, and key players from the public and private sectors interested in privacy, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence.

Panama as a strategic privacy hub The congress is being held in a context where data protection has become an essential and global priority. This legislation, in effect in Panama since March 2021, regulates the processing of personal data by establishing specific principles, rights, and obligations. With this initiative, Panama positions itself as a fundamental axis for the regional discussion on regulatory compliance and information security.

The representative of ALAP for Panama and Central America, Armando Lin Barsallo, who has over 20 years of experience and was the first director of Personal Data Protection at ANTAI, highlighted the relevance of the meeting.

Regulatory framework and practical tools During the sessions, experts addressed strategic issues linked to Law 81 of 2019.
