MIDES Reactivates Hogar María Auxiliadora as Shelter for the 2026 School Period

The Ministry of Social Development (MIDES) announced that, starting Wednesday, March 11, the Hogar María Auxiliadora will resume its normal operation as a seasonal shelter for students. Currently, work is underway to reconnect the equipment in the computer lab to ensure that residents have the necessary technological tools for their training. This center, administered by MIDES, is returning to its original function as a seasonal shelter to receive young female students during the school year. Last year, with the backing of the First Lady's Office and the private sector, MIDES carried out structural remodeling to offer a safe and comfortable environment. During the past academic break, Hogar María Auxiliadora functioned as a temporary reception space for 10 young adults with health problems and disabilities. This reactivation will allow it to receive young female students who will remain in the facilities during the 2026 school period, fulfilling the institutional commitment to provide academic and social accompaniment to adolescents. In preparation for the start of school activities, the center's staff has carried out intensive cleaning and reorganization of the furniture. In addition to this center, the ministry maintains the operational Hogar de Niñas de Penonomé, which currently houses 33 seasonal students, as well as the protection homes Beatriz Jaén in Coclé and the Hogar de Niñas de Soná in Veraguas. These actions are part of the governing body's strategy to strengthen the protection of children and adolescents in vulnerable situations throughout the country.
